Chief Executive Officer
Over a 30 year career, Phillip has worked at numerous fast-growing technology companies as a founder, investor, executive and technologist. In recent years Phillip has served as chairman of EnterpriseDB, a leading open source database company; chairman of RollStream, a SaaS supply chain collaboration company (acquired by GXS); and as co-founder and executive chairman of VisualCV.com, an online multimedia resume website (acquired by Talemetry).
Previously, Phillip was Chairman and CEO of webMethods, Inc., a leading vendor of business integration software, which he co-founded in 1996 with a software product developed in his basement. Under his leadership, the company pioneered web services and XML-based software integration technologies, demonstrated the strongest revenue growth ($1M to over $200M) of any US software company in the period 1998 through 2002, and achieved the most successful software IPO to date in February of 2000. webMethods was acquired by Software AG in 2007 for $550M. Awards Phillip has received include KPMG Entrepreneur of the Year, Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Washingtonian Magazine “Titan of Technology”, and CRN “Top 25 Executive”.
Phillip holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Melbourne (Australia), and lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and two sons.

George brings a unique perspective — and deep passion — to the world of digital messaging that drives not only the continued success of Message Systems and its clients but also the future of our industry. As a top-notch technologist in his own right, George has a dynamic vision for how technology can be harnessed to advance digital messaging for the benefit of all stakeholders and enhance the customer’s ultimate experience.
Complementing this vision and the company’s technology heritage are his values regarding people — our own team, the clients we serve, and the interests of the broader community in which we live. This leadership inspires all that we do at Message Systems — from the nature of the products we build and the service we afford clients to how we transact business and pursue our roadmap for transforming the future digital messaging.
Before co-founding Message Systems in 1997, George was lead systems administrator at iVillage. He also served as Director of Operations and principal architect of technical changes at Community Connect, Inc., where he helped increase traffic 100-fold and vaulted the company into the top five Nielsen ranked sites in member loyalty.
George is an internationally recognized expert in the PHP language, has published numerous technical articles and a critically acclaimed book on the topic, and has spoken often at industry events.
After earning an M.A. degree in mathematics from Johns Hopkins University and a Sc.M. degree in mathematics from Brown University, George served as a teacher in the Peace Corps for two years.
George is highly regarded within the industry and is frequently tapped by the media and analysts to share his informed and visionary views on how technology is shaping the future of digital messaging.
Chief Marketing Officer
Josh Aberant serves as the CMO at SparkPost. Prior to joining SparkPost, he served as Postmaster at Twitter for four years. Josh was the Co-Founder and CEO of RestEngine before the company was acquired by Twitter. At RestEngine he led the launch of its industry-leading social data outbound marketing automation platform. With over 15 years of growth & marketing best practices experience, Josh has led teams at MarTech platform companies including Marketo, Lyris, EmailLabs. Additionally, with over 20 years of experience at tech startups, Josh has been involved in the success of many early stage startups including Collab.Net & Intershop. Josh holds a Bachelor’s in Physics from San Francisco State University and was awarded the Faculty Prize in Physics from Bishop’s University.
