Chief Executive Officer
Rich is CEO of SparkPost. He has built successful technology businesses for more than 20 years. Outside of work Rich is a competitive cyclist and he races and rides all over the world. He also enjoys cycling and the outdoors with his 3 children.
Prior to joining SparkPost, Rich was Group Vice President of the Oracle Data Cloud (ODC). Rich was responsible for all international operations at ODC, and turned it into one of the fastest growing divisions at Oracle. Prior to Oracle, Rich was CEO of AddThis and led the Company through rapid growth and its profitable acquisition by Oracle.
Preceding AddThis, Rich was an investor and operator in several prosperous technology businesses. Rich founded Mt. Weather Capital and RedShift Ventures. He was responsible for multiple exits, including Cronos Integrated Microsystems (acquired by JDS Uniphase for $750mm).
An active member of the mid-Atlantic entrepreneurial community, Rich was a board member of the University of Maryland’s Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship, the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA), and a founder and Chairman of the Young Atlantic Venture Association. Rich was a Clinical Professor for the R.H. Smith School of Business. He received an M.B.A and J.D. from the University of Maryland, and a B.A. in Economics from Denison University.

Before co-founding Message Systems in 1997, George was lead systems administrator at iVillage. He also served as Director of Operations and principal architect of technical changes at Community Connect, Inc., where he helped increase traffic 100-fold and vaulted the company into the top five Nielsen ranked sites in member loyalty.
George is an internationally recognized expert in the PHP language, has published numerous technical articles and a critically acclaimed book on the topic, and has spoken often at industry events.
After earning an M.A. degree in mathematics from Johns Hopkins University and a Sc.M. degree in mathematics from Brown University, George served as a teacher in the Peace Corps for two years.
George is highly regarded within the industry and is frequently tapped by the media and analysts to share his informed and visionary views on how technology is shaping the future of digital messaging.
