When you send email with SparkPost, you may have noticed that we use default links that use this domain: http://spgo.io. That’s because by default SparkPost takes your links, truncates them, and, if requested, injects tracking data to provide you with metrics on opens and clicks.
But never fear! You can easily change this default so that your links reflect your own domain while still getting those metrics on opens and clicks. Here are three good reasons for you to brand your tracking links and how to do it:
Consumer confidence. If your domain is abc.com, and your links direct to mail.abc.com, your recipients know that the email is definitely coming from your company.
Brand awareness. Links that use your domain offer a more streamlined, professional look and keep the focus on your brand.
Deliverability. Recipient servers compare the sending domain and the links and may question emails with links that do not match the sending domain. While they may not bounce the email, it stands a much better chance of landing in the spam folder instead of the inbox. In other words, branded links are much better for deliverability and contribute positively to your reputation.

- Create a CNAME off of your main domain, such as mail.abc.com
- Point that CNAME to http://spgo.io(unfortunately, at this time we do not support secure SSL subdomains). Give your new CNAME a bit of time to propagate across the DNS. (If you get curious, you can use a tool like http://viewdns.info/propagation/ to see if it’s propagated yet.)
- Make a note of your port, if it’s not the typical 587
- Tell us about it by, you guessed it, emailing us. Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- In your email, include the CNAME, the port, and the domain with which you want to associate the CNAME.
- It’s also a good idea to provide the email address your company initially signed up with, if you aren’t replying using that email address.
