All at the same time, I am feeling excited, honored, privileged and slightly daunted to be taking on the CEO role here at Message Systems.
George and the entire Message Systems team have created an incredible foundation to build upon. The technology platform is extremely strong, the customer list is simply extraordinary, and the talent and commitment of the staff are amply in evidence.
For most of my thirty years in the technology industry I’ve worked in fast growing software companies. I started out as a developer, but have had roles in sales, business development and management, in addition to being an entrepreneur. Most recently I’ve been chairman at EnterpriseDB, an open source database company now about the same size as Message Systems; also chairman at RollStream, a SaaS supply chain collaboration company; and co-founder and chairman of VisualCV, an online multimedia resume website.
My longest and most successful run was as co-founder and CEO of webMethods, a provider of application integration middleware. We pioneered web services technology and applied it to the problems of connecting applications together over the network. I developed the company’s first product in the basement of our townhouse, and from that humble beginning we grew to a worldwide company with over 200 million dollars in revenues. The company had a very successful IPO, and was ultimately acquired by a major European software company in 2007.
Messaging technology is fundamental to how we communicate, collaborate and transact business, across both our personal and professional lives. I am strongly attracted to business opportunities that involve delivering fundamental infrastructure to customers. With the proper execution, it provides a great platform on which to grow a big and successful business.
As I mentioned earlier, George, working with everyone in Message Systems, has built a great foundation. The technology platform and the customer base are just phenomenal. It’s really unusual for a company of this size to be doing such substantial things for major companies like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, PayPal and US Airways.
I truly believe there is an enormous opportunity in front of Message Systems, and I greatly look forward to pursuing it with you. I think it will be a great adventure. I can’t wait to get going!
